Our Changing World

I may seem to be picking on just a few countries here, and that’s both method and madness. As Shakespeare said:

Brutus:
There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.

The tide of nations may be more connected now than in the past. Still, some nations are on the rise and others are subsiding. In fact the idea of large nations with a united ideology is a fairly new thing, only centuries old, and it appears their tide may be running out. Rome did not encourage nor expect the people of it’s empire to be similar, they didn’t care what governance they suffered under or language they spoke –as long as they sent a tribute of gold, slaves, and food.

This is the view of one PT. It is however a view I’ve spent a great deal of time studying and challenging. If you have a choice between many dozens of countries and their passports, it makes sense to select several flags for your closet. You can then wear whatever flag is appropriate for that moment or particular purpose. Since nations drift with the tides, it is reasonable to pick ones that are rising and that you can rise with, rather than those shrinking and becoming more restrictive.

Nations to play in where you may be naught but an occasional tourist, nations for business interests where you may become a citizen but not reside, official domiciles where human rights are respected and you may occasionally visit, and other flags for other purposes. You have the choice, not them, unless you have but one country and no passport. In that case you are property; a cow to be herded, milked, and perhaps slaughtered.

Look to the position of freedom as it relates to government privilege. If “the enemy increaseth every day” then the end will not be pleasant, Look to your own life, is where you find yourself becoming more secure and liberated? If not, catch the tide and sail, before you get stuck in the mud of a drained harbor. A grounded ship is an easy target, seldom missed, soon looted.

If you do nothing, that too is a choice. You have decided to let others decide your future, you have decided to join the cattle. Your life can be much more than this single choice, but it is your choice to make. The open seas or a feed pen. Notice your emotional reaction. Try to use logic instead.

You’ve just made your choice.
